We are a fully equipped veterinary animal hospital in Hong Kong with the capability to provide a range of diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical treatments. Dr. Ruth was born and raised in Canada before attending the University of Melbourne to attain a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree in 2010. After graduation, she practiced in Australia at a busy country practice before deciding on a change of pace and lifestyle – making the move to Hong Kong in 2014.

Working at the SPCA (HK) in the position as Assistant Senior Surgeon allowed Dr. Ruth to see a variety of cases, further fostering the desire to provide animals and their owners with the best care available.

As an avid animal lover since his youth, Dr. Tim began his career in veterinary science in Australia. Upon graduating at the University of Sydney in 2009, he worked in a hustling suburban clinic where he carved a niche for himself treating companion animals. Five years of practice reinforced his sense of duty to animal welfare and equipped him with the skills to fulfill so. He returned to Hong Kong and joined the SPCA where their advocacy of animal welfare aligned well with his passion.

Dr. Kian Yuen graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh in 2013. Through the years, he worked at multiple veterinary practices and gained extensive experience in all fields of medicine. His main veterinary interests lay in emergency medicine/surgery and ultrasonography, of which he completed various professional continual studies.

Dr. Carmen graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2014. Being a vet was her dream come true. After graduation, she worked in a few esteemed veterinary practices in Hong Kong, caring for owned pets and homeless animals. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine with her particular interests lying in internal medicine and ultrasonography. She strives to provide the best medical care to her patients and continues to study related postgraduate courses while working towards her Cert AVP with the University of Liverpool.

With their small stature, larger than life personalities and cute faces, French Bulldogs have soared in popularity over the last few years. While they make lovely pets, their appearance has come at a price for their animal welfare.


These dogs have been selectively bred to have a flat-face, which means they have a shortened skull, jaw and nose, with the same amount of soft tissue squashed into a now much smaller space. This creates a significantly reduced airflow, leading to chronic breathing difficulty and compromised quality of life. They live in a chronically oxygen depleted state and are more prone to heat stress and regurgitation.


These disorders are similarly seen in many other Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, including English Bulldogs, Pugs, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Pekingese.


Many factors contribute to the breathing difficulty, but the main issues are:

Snoring and noisy breathing are the obvious abnormalities that owners observe, however there are many other more subtle behaviours that also indicate breathing difficulty.
